About Serial Sentinel:
These studio-shots are of Serial Sentinel, the second abstract landscape in the Majestic In My Neighborhood series. I am modifying the wire type that transitions from 2D marks on background layers to 3D wire suspended in space. The final installation of the "object of focus," in this case the utility pole was challenging. After deliberating for a while, I determined that already the two-legged utility pole, which was already complete, needed to be embedded into the layers directly behind it, and not freestanding.
As a freestanding object, it felt like I was making a model of the real thing as if for a train set, not as a focal point of the landscape. Embedding the utility pole unified it with the landscape more in keeping with my thought process of flattening of spaces and objects that exist in 3D. Making mistakes is part of the process of artmaking for me, and some mistakes are bigger than others, but eventually lead to solutions that function better visually and conceptually.
